foreign to CEO insights I'm Marilyn De Guzman with investing News Network my guest this episode is Jennifer neild CEO of Labyrinth resources and she's providing some updates on the exploration work at the company's Comet Vale project in Western Australia hello Jen hi real and thank you for having me it's good to have you I think we can start up our conversation so you recently joined Labyrinth resources uh back in July I believe um so what have been your first order of business and also I guess provide our
viewers um with just a background about yourself and then you know what have you been doing in your first few months in in the position yeah sure so my I'll start with my background um so originally Canadian I started working in Sudbury um did my schooling in Sudbury working for Falcon Bridge so if anyone can remember um back 20 years ago um that later became glencore so we started my career in nickel I did a bit of exploration work throughout Canon uranium in the albatute greenstone belt gold so moved around
quite a bit and then came to Australia a little bit later with and uh joined Newmont and worked at jundy Goldmine um from there I uh moved into I did a bit of underground work did um expiration there and um decided I guess I got into resource geology decided that wasn't for me and decided to do a master's degree in geophysics and that's what took me to high size which was a they specialized in the Hard Rock seismic um so got to see and work on many mine sites all over the world um mine's like fosterville
um there's matzah um two bitsin Inland um Dundee again so there's a lot of a lot of opportunities I had and from there that was when I got um into the more corporate world uh just because of some of the connections and people you speak to and the Rocks you've seen um it becomes it becomes a bit more of an easy transition as I did a lot of business development in that role as well and as you know being an executive is really about um it's about how you know the talking about your your what you have and you
know being excited about it so um that's certainly something um I am with Labyrinth and coming on uh with these great projects that we have with Labyrinth um projects in um Canada and Quebec um and then here with comment bail they're both uh very Specky little projects right so um since you've joined uh I can see that you've probably been busy with um some of the work that you're doing at ComEd well so can you talk a little bit more about that um some first order of business uh since
you joined the company yeah and that leads on from the previous question one of the reasons I was asked to come on board with Labyrinth is um the the previous CEO fantastic um fantastic CEO um really wanted to move ahead to mine um at Labyrinth so had done a lot of the work and and same with comment bail there was really this drive to get these projects in operation um you know the Market's changed everyone could it can admit to that and um and there has been a bit more of a push for exploration and move into
developing the resource a bit more um and that's that was really very hard in the current market but you know that's something I specialize in as well as not only um you know extension or resources but uh Greenfield brownfields exploration so there's a lot of nearsight opportunity or near-mind opportunity that still exists at both these projects so let's talk about cometville first of all because you know you just had some news about some work that you're doing there could you talk a bit more about
um that news uh that came out from your company and um where you go from there sure um so the announcement was really just to let our shareholders know um that we're very active right at the moment I mean I actually joined um in August um so I've kind of been at it for about a month and a half now but I during that time you know besides getting up to up to Snuff with the um with the projects and you know the company itself but also I was doing a pretty uh in-depth review of historic data now that's just a lead-on from you
know you might look and see that we previously done a bit of historic work that was really focused on work that had been done in the last kind of 20 years um or less than that really there's a lot of Digital Data available but one of the things this common bill in particular has been lined since the early 1900s and you'd think you know maybe there's not a lot of opportunity left at these places but anyone who's worked in the gold Fields knows that you know that's only scratching the surface a lot of
these um occurrences gold occurrences or even Nickel in our case uh as well I haven't really been explored beyond the top 20 meters maybe 50 meters if we're lucky so there's still a lot of opportunity to be had and um going back and looking at the Historical records from the 50s 60s 70s you can see that there was actually a lot of drilling done and what was you know high grade does now was very low grade to them um because if you couldn't see it you didn't generally mine it there
um so yeah just it's all about putting together all these Clues it's a mystery to solve and um and I'm here to help do that right so I can just imagine you know when we are reviewing all these historical data um your uh geologists as well right uh so what are the uh you know some of the aspects that you look at when you're reviewing historical data that will lead you to I guess um you know to plan for your next work that you're going to do in a project that's a really interesting question so
um I think where I see a lot of room to grow for this is that everybody explores the project in a different way everyone has their own um you know their own motivators own drives a lot of it was gold at this property um there has historically been a bit of nickel laterite expiration um because of the the higher nickel grades near the surface um but what really hasn't been done and what is going to be driving all future companies is that we're looking at a multicult multi-commodity approach still
very focused on the gold and that has been a lot of the focus of this exploration but we can't just sample for gold um anymore that's you know investors are Savvy now they know they need to see the property as a whole because if you walk away from what some of these properties um you're missing a huge opportunity because right now you know there's a lot of the easy stock near surface has been found um some could argue there's still more opportunity there but until you flip everything on its head I think there's
not going to be more just big discoveries found so that's that's really important is to approach it um from you know outside of the box thinking for uh example a comment bail though we have a lot of gold multiple structures that we're following up right now parallel structures um to the main load where we're also looking at you know some of the old data is missing a lot of elements that are really important and you know building us a story that's a bit different to what was known
um so if I'm I'm losing you there um we could take an example of uh nickel expiration so nickelaterate was a bit of the focus but nickel laterite you know has to come from somewhere it's the weathering of these ultramafic rocks um but one of the things that didn't sample for is sulfur which is a really important ingredient in your nickel sulfide so um that was something we'll have to go back and reevaluate whether we need to resample some things um to to get a full prong approach to
this um so that's that's kind of how it's done but we're also looking at structures and just checking up on um you know potentials like sometimes these things were ignored because they're too thin or they don't have great at surface but structures often continue on many kilometers and um there might be grade in different parts of it we know these things are nuggety we know these things patience well so we need to be very open-minded so following that review what are what
will be the next steps for the company oh the very much the next steps are going to be putting together right now we've got someone um up at comicvale doing some mapping um looking at uh looking for pigment types that were recorded historically um we just want to make sure those are covered off um you know that's not the focus certainly of Labyrinth we're still um very focused on gold um but we we just want to have a look at what's what's on the property and any of these historic uh notes that were made
you know pegmatite veins that were seen in the the west side or in the east side in the ultramafics we're certainly making sure we know where those are um and then we're also you know trying to put some evidence together with regard to the um the ultramafics and looking at kind of that nickel perspective so we'll be putting together more of that story but also very much with the gold we're we're gonna um continue to have a look at how we can move forward on on that story and there
is possible that we can do extensions to the main resource at the moment we do have a resource there you know it's around 96 000 ounces at the moment at 4.8 grams per title which is considered high grade and it's nothing nothing to scoff at for sure so there is a lot of potential we can build on that resource but we also see a lot of value in um you know making sure we understand the other structures in the area because historically um trends like um the Rambo Trend to the to the east of sub our our main uh our
main Trend and also our long tunnel you know these these have given a lot of bulls um like you know thousands of ounces of gold um in fact we'll never probably know the true number because they were lined so early and uh we all got the old timers back in the day used to just line up in front of each other and hack out there's literally a tunnel in the side of a hill and it just goes on and on so it's an interesting area right the Technologies and they definitely help with the modern
exploration in that part that that's in that regard so now you you talk about gold as well right so can you there's you have another project the Labyrinth project in Canada I believe uh could you talk about what's going on there um where it's at right now yeah um a labyrinth is I don't want anyone to think we've forgotten about Labyrinth we're certainly still very interested in what it has to offer um you know previously back last year a resource of 500 000 ounces at um five
grams per ton um this is all inferred material and um previously it had measured and indicated material about what what we need to do was bring it to to Australian standards um and as well I think it was just being very conservative conservative because if you're going to mine it you are going to try and be more conservative about how you do that estimation um so really what needs to be done there is looking again for extensions and improving upon the resource um right now there it's hunting season
so there's not much exploration going on around the mine area you do have to be um be careful so any work we do is probably going to be put off a little bit longer there just because of you know the winter season is coming up so it'll be very much Going Back to Basics there as well doing a bit of uh compilation work looking at historical data um and and planning for any geophysics looking at ways to to improve or and extend um look for extensions on the main resources so I think that this is a tier
one District you're surrounded by mines that are produced you know millions of ounces um you know with keratis and being very close by um and producing over 12 million uh ounces historically so you know this I can't begin to understate how we're overstate How uh how incredible this this jurisdiction is and how lucky we are to have this one right so um what can investor Community expect from the company in the coming months yeah in the coming months we're certainly gonna um you know tighten up on our
exploration strategy so I think I think that's going to be really important is that we are uh we we want to convey to our our investors into the market um that we're we're quite focused we know what we want to do it's just about how to get there and and that's something that you know works best in theory and in planning but sometimes doesn't always play out so we're we've got a goal we're working towards it um at this point um so we'll we'll definitely be letting
everyone know the results uh some of the field work that we've done coming up we'll see that we'll uh we have a final payment with um get gold in in Canada and that will give us title to the Labyrinth property so that will be in our name um thereafter so that's September 29th and we've also applied for some um some additional uh claims there so no hopefully those will be will be granted great well thanks again for uh joining me today and sharing some uh some of your views about your projects and your
upcoming work okay thank you and thanks everyone for watching join us again next time for another engaging conversation on CEO insights if you like this video subscribe to our YouTube channel and turn on notifications so you don't miss any new updates and interviews from investing News Network see you next time [Music]
